So,
How Safe are we?
Safe enough to serve on Kauai's Search
and Rescue Team! Inter-Island Helicopters recently received an
Accommodation Award for ten of years of perfect safety and
search and rescues by the honorable Mayor of Kauai. Air 1
has conducted hundreds of search and rescues. Thanks to their
skilled pilots and precision of the Hughes 500 helicopters they
have saved many lives in the process.
Though
our island is a relatively safe and beautiful one, occasional
mishaps do occur; hikers losing their way and/or getting injured,
kayakers getting caught in high surf and even experienced
surfers getting dragged to sea... when these accidents occur its
Air 1 to the rescue!
Forest fires and other types of missions also call upon Air 1 for
help due to their speed and skills needed for carrying water buckets
and rescue baskets.
On
a recent mission, Air 1 and its owner/operator Ken D'Attilio even
rescued a Clydesdale horse who
had ended up upside down in a gully!
Most
of our pilots are military trained and our aircraft are certified
as FAA Part 135 Air Carrier,
FAA Part 133 External Load, FAA Part 137 AG Spraying, US Coast Guard
approved, US Forest Service approved as part of the County
of Kauai Rescue helicopter service.
